I think many people are under the impression that they can't possibly live a healthy lifestyle. Yet, they try diet after diet, without ever being able to stick one out long-term. Why is this? While diets work short-term, for long-term purposes they are not realistic and leave one feeling deprived. Humans end up getting over their restricting diet and resort back to their old habits. Diets don't teach one how to live a healthy lifestyle, a lifestyle which provides one with an abundant of nutrients and diverse, healthy foods that keep things interesting. There are endless healthy ingredients out there to allow you to really get creative in the kitchen with your meals. I bet there are over a million, healthy salad recipes out there in the cyber-world. With all of this said, I thought it would be beneficial to share a little "Healthy lifestyle 101" with you so that you too can start living a healthy lifestyle that will last. Some key things you need to live a healthy style for life are:
KNOWLEDGE- It's true what they say, knowledge is POWER. The more you stay informed on what is going on in the health world the more equipped you will be to live in it, yourself. Follow health-focused social media accounts, get a health-magazine subscription and GOOGLE new health terms and health foods you hear about.
BELIEF IN YOURSELF- You need to have a can-do attitude that you can and will live a healthy lifestyle. You need to believe and tell yourself daily that you will have a healthy day- Positive talk is SO important. I hear humans all the time say that they can't eat healthy and that is just not true. They are CHOOSING to not live healthy and CHOOSING to believe it is not possible for them. Remember, you are capable of doing whatever you put your mind to!
DISCIPLINE- To make healthy choices each and every day and up to 6-7 times a day on top of that, you need WILLPOWER. Is it easier to run out on your lunch break and grab a pizza slice or drive through the nearest McDonald's? Sure. But it tastes so much better to eat a pre-packed meal you made at home. And after you eat that healthier meal I guarantee you will feel so much better about yourself and your body will thank you. TRUST ME. The best way to staying disciplined leads me to the next key to staying healthy...
PLANNING- Yes, you must plan every day and week to stay on track. Make a healthy grocery list once a week and get enough food to make healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and get some items to have healthy snacks on hand. A healthy pantry and refrigerator guarantees a healthier you. So clean out all of the junk and foods that won't expire until 2075 (SCARY!) and revamp what you stock at home to eat. Going out to dinner with friends? Scope the restaurant menu ahead of time and decide what you will order ahead, so you are less tempted to order that fried dish all of your friends are getting. The great news is a lot of restaurants offer a healthy choices section on their menus. Also, eat a salad before you go to dinner to avoid overloading on those free chips or that bread basket. Running errands? Pack a few healthy snacks with you, so you don't eat out. The more you plan, the more you will succeed and the easier and easier it will be to live a healthy lifestyle everyday, no matter the situation.
STAYING ACTIVE- As important as it is to feed your body healthy, i think it is equally important to incorporate an active lifestyle with that healthy one. While one may complain all the way to the gym, the only thing someone leaving the gym complains about is feeling sore. And let's be honest, feeling sore from the gym feels good, it's that proof to yourself that you did your body some good. Commit to doing some form of exercise (get CREATIVE) 5 days a week for 20 minutes minimum. This may include hitting the gym one day, going on a 5 mile hike the next, running yourself and your beloved dog (pets need exercise too!), going for a bike ride, and maybe even finding a workout friend and doing kickboxing, pilates or yoga together. The more you workout, the more you will want to feed your body well, and the more you feed your body well, the more you will want to workout. The two really go hand in hand.
