I'm sure you've heard the word <<fermented>> thrown out there a lot in the health world the past few years. And while you know that fermented grapes make wine, consuming fermented foods on the regular may be somewhat new and foreign to you still. Fermented foods are great to have daily (before or with meals) because they are loaded with beneficial enzymes, b-vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and various strains of probiotics. Probiotics provide good bacteria and enzymes into your digestive system, which helps to digest food and absorb more nutrients from the foods you eat. Eating fermented foods regularly also means you won't need to take as many supplements and vitamins. BONUS! So how can you start making this a staple in your diet? Head on over to your closest health market (such as Whole Foods) and you'll find an array of fermented goodness. I love Pickled Planet's "Lil kim chee" raw sauerkraut (pictured below), it really does taste like kim chee (they have quite a few creative flavors and ingredients). Lil Kim Chee is made of fermented cabbage, carrots, daikon, ginger, garlic and a few organic seasonings. I usually have 2-4 bites of this before lunch and dinner. I'll admit, it is a bit of an acquired taste, but there are so many variations out there today that you are bound to find one you vibe with. Now how is that for a new FIT Food for this wonderful T.G.I.F?!
