Sometimes vacation should also include taking a break from social media, from having to share our treasured moments with the world, and sometimes things are more sacred when they aren’t shared (whether that be ever or at least in real-time). We feel this pressure to have to share things the moment they are happening, but this takes away from the moment and makes us lose a sense of it. It was liberating not to feel obligated to have to highlight my vacation while I was there.
Maybe the next time you have a day trip planned or a vacation, you can set the intention to go into it living in the moment and forgo keeping the social media world in the loop…To immense yourself in the experience instead of being distracting by thoughts of having to take the perfect picture, having to find the right filter for the photo, having to record the moment, or think of the right caption, all while trying to be present and in the moment. Because in reality you can’t be in the moment and on social media at the same time. My Portland trip made me realize the most important connections we can have are with ourselves, with Mother Nature, and with our loved ones…NOT with our Wi-Fi connection.
